Hot in Fort Lauderdale - BAG Gallery Show

Last night was a beautiful HOT South Florida night; perfect for the opening reception of the Landscape and Still Life exhibit at the Broward Art Guild! Below are some of my favorite artworks from the show, which are on display through Aug 22 in the Gallery...

Second Place! My favorite mixed media landscape.
Lynn Greenberg's whimsical landscape. What a beautiful frame, too! :)
OMG, this is a PASTEL! Beautiful.
Rainy eve coloring in this moody oil painting by Bonnie Shapiro.
GLITTER everywhere in this highly textured painting! LUV!
Love the movement in this acrylic abstract landscape.
Such an interesting still life by Ken Harrison.
This is an amazing WATERCOLOR!
Diane Wall Karmiol's sculpture "Alone".
Me with my Pebeo Acrylic triptych "Upland".

To inquire about and purchase any of the artworks shown here, contact the Broward Art Guild at 954-537-3370, or see these and many more on exhibit at the BAG Gallery, 3280 NE 32nd Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33308. Visit their website HERE.

Hope you are enjoying the summer heat and fun outdoor activities... and it's Back To School for Floridian's this month! Happy Arting! :D  Tristina

Busy With Galleries...

Yesterday was a busy Gallery day! In the early part of the day I finished up a 3 panel painting (triptych), which I later submitted to a Landscape and Still Life show. They went out the door so fast I didn't have a chance to take pictures! The set is a very soft suggestive landscape called "upland", 24 in x 36 in x 2.5 in; I promise pictures next weekend from the show.

I attended 3 Openings last night! The first was a visit to Studio Henning Haupt to view guest artist Adam Collier Noel's ARTAFACT/ARTIFICE show. WOW! His artwork was spectacular, utilizing vintage photos and transfers for an organic, antique look. Here are pictures:

Even though Henning was not at his studio last night as he was attending another opening of his artworks in the FAT Village ArtWalk, some of his magnificent oil paintings were in residence...

Next door to Studio Henning Haupt, the MAC Fine Art Gallery had an opening as well. Here are my favorites from that show:

Fantastic sculpture made from plastic toy parts!
Dimensional landscapes carved out of mini magazines.

And last, and certainly the highlight of the night, was the "Summer Heat V" opening in Wilton Manors at the Rossetti Gallery (http://tomrossetti.com/) where Adam, from the Studio Henning Haupt opening, won the Best In Show! It was a pleasure to spend the Rossetti opening with several of my artist friends, Tatiana Cast (mixed media painting) and Sandra Canning (fine art photography). Here's one last picture from last night with Tatiana and me in front of her painting, 'Beyond', with Sandra's photograph above:

What ARTSY activities are you doing this hot summer? Please share in the comments below.

Happy Arting! :D  Tristina

Visit With Peace Mural Foundation

Yesterday my daughter Samantha and I went to Miami Beach to visit dynamic and prolific Artist Huong (Anna) at her Peace Mural Foundation Museum Gallery and view the spectacular Peace Murals that she has created through her own paintings and by inspiring intern artists from local universities, children, and people of all ages and from all walks of life. Find out more about the Foundation at www.peacemural.org

This one Mural for Peace consists of 2000 canvases and includes paintings
with the word Peace written in 120 different languages.

As a refugee from Vietnam, Anna came to America with her son to escape from the ravages of war. Having experienced the effects of war first hand, she has made it her mission to work at educating people to think of PEACE as a priority in our lives and for the good of our shared planet. Her organization does this through ART!

I am grateful that Anna has asked me to help teach her university art student interns how to use the Pebeo Fantasy paints on 400 canvases for the Foundation's latest Save Our Oceans mural project to be unveiled in Miami in November! I have loaned my Reef Skull 1 and Prism's Dance paintings to the Foundation as inspiration for the interns, and they may be viewed by the public while visiting Miami Beach at the Peace Mural Foundation Museum Gallery, 1606 Washington Avenue. Open daily 2 pm - 10 pm.

One of my favorite murals (they are all gorgeous and provocative) in the museum is the Immigration Mural running the length of several walls. Here is an article on the Foundation website about it: http://www.peacemural.org/miami-newtimes/

One of my favorite quotes from the Immigration Mural!

Thank you so much to Anna for her gifting Samantha and me the intaglios from the Immigration Mural series of a family and wise owl by the late Miami artist Joe Demarais and signing her Peace Mural poster for us! I'm so looking forward to working with Anna's team on the Save Our Oceans mural. :D

Happy Arting & Peace Out!  Tristina

Contemporary Miami at Wynwood, Art Basel

This was my first year attending Art Basel in Miami. I know, crazy right since I live just up the road in Fort Lauderdale? In the past I didn't want to brave the crowds, but this year I was Gallery represented by ArtBlend of Fort Lauderdale in the Spectrum tent in the Wynwood Arts District. In addition to that, I was fortunate enough to have received free tickets to several other of the art show tents as well due to the connections made throughout 2013 submitting to Gallery 'Calls for Art' and joining Gallery/Art Newsletter mailing lists... (There's a hint for ya if you want to score tickets next year to Miami or NY!)

ArtBlend Gallery in Fort Lauderdale was representing my Asia Series paintings. Here are a few of them:

Hana

Prosperity

Song

Dynasty

I took artistic license in creating "artful calligraphy" for these paintings based on my experience in studying Chinese calligraphy painting, but allowing myself to make up the letter forms. In an effort to then attach meaning to each painting, I wrote a Haiku style poem on the back for how the painting reminded me of of my having grown up in Taipei, Taiwan and Seoul, Korea as a child.

Here are some of my favorite pieces by other artists from the Miami Art Basel Wynwood Contemporary shows:

blah, blah, blah - Mel Bochner, Quint Contemporary Art

Ross Bonfanti (creepy, but cool!)

Judy Pfaff,  Accola Griefen Gallery (encaustic wax on ephemera from India)

Ensayo Sobre Guero Tropical, Omar Chacon, Fouladi Projects Gallery

Alejo Santa Maria

Festival, Suh Jeong Min, Jankossen Contemporary (rolled and sliced Korean paper)

Richard Hart, Baang & Burne Gallery
Me with Charlie of Baang & Burne Gallery, NY who graciously gave me tickets to the CONTEXT Contemporary Art Show. In front of her artist, Richart Hart's, powerful works.

And, last but not least, my fellow artist Tonia Wasko and I were fascinated by the running videos with sound  encapsulated in glass jars by artist David Zimmer at the Robischon Gallery booth. Here's a link to a video I took of one of the jars YouTube of Live Tornado Capsule. You can see more of David Zimmer's artwork at the Robischon Gallery website HERE.

Hope you enjoyed this glimpse into Miami's Art Basel 2013! HAPPY ARTING! Tristina
